About the Molicel INR18650-P30B 18650 Li-ion Cell 3,000 mAh 30 A

The P30B is one of very few 18650 cells that holds 3,000 mAh while carrying a 36 A discharge rating. Molicel places it on the same application pages as its 21700 power cells — power tools, drones and eVTOLs, racing motorcycles — because the format still wins where the envelope was designed around 18650.

Why pack builders specify it

  • 36 A discharge rating at 3,000 mAh, an unusual current-to-capacity ratio in the 18650 format
  • 47 g keeps packs light where the housing was already engineered for 18650
  • Standard 3 A charge with Molicel's low-impedance build for high-rate work
  • Discharge rated to -40 °C for cold and high-altitude operation

Typical applications

  • Ultra-high-power cordless tools – Equipment that needs 18650 geometry but draws beyond what a 20 A cell delivers
  • Racing and FPV drones – High burst current at low cell mass
  • Racing motorcycle and kart packs – Molicel lists the P30B for two-wheeled motorsport alongside its 21700 cells
  • Aerospace and defence auxiliary power – Where qualification is tied to the 18650 format

Where it fits

Use the P30B when the pack must stay in the 18650 format but the load exceeds what a 25R or 30Q can carry. Independent testing puts continuous capability near 30 A rather than the 36 A Molicel rating, so size continuous duty to 30 A and treat 36 A as the manufacturer's figure.

Charging and pack integration

Charge CC-CV to 4.2 V within the current limits listed above and stop discharge at 2.5 V. These are unprotected industrial cells: a BMS or protection circuit is required, interconnects must be resistance or laser welded rather than soldered, and cells of different model, batch or state of charge must not be mixed in one pack. Charging below 0 °C is not permitted unless the pack implements a low-temperature charge strategy.

Questions about this cell

36 A is Molicel's rating. Independent testing by Mooch puts continuous capability at 30 A. Design to 30 A continuous and you are inside both figures.
The P30B carries 500 mAh more capacity and a higher current rating at 47 g versus 45 g, at a higher unit cost.
Standard charge is 3 A (1 C). Higher rates need cell temperature monitoring in the pack.
