Frequently asked questions
How specifications are sourced, what ships with an order, and what we can and cannot document.
Specifications and provenance
Where the numbers come from, what "pending" means, and how to check a figure before you design against it.
What do you supply?+
Lithium-ion cells in 18650, 21700, 18500, 22700 and prismatic formats, published in the catalogue with their parameters and where each figure came from. Pack builds and storage systems are quoted per specification rather than listed as catalogue lines, because the configuration depends on the duty profile.
Where do the specifications on this site come from?+
Three provenance tiers. Tier A is a manufacturer product data sheet held as a PDF, with values read from that document. Tier B is a manufacturer public page or catalogue with no downloadable data sheet. Tier C is a third-party listing. Models without a manufacturer data sheet on file are marked pending rather than presented as verified.
Why are some models marked pending?+
Samsung SDI, LG Energy Solution and Panasonic do not publish downloadable cell data sheets for most cylindrical models. Where no manufacturer document exists, the values come from public sources and stay labelled pending until they can be checked. Molicel publishes data sheets for its models, and those are held on file.
Can I get the data sheet before ordering?+
For any model marked Datasheet, the manufacturer PDF is linked directly from the catalogue and the model page. For a pending model, send the designation and we will tell you what we hold and what we would need to obtain.
Sourcing, samples and commercial terms
Who we sell to, how a sample order works, and why no prices are published.
Do you sell to individuals?+
No. This is a B2B operation — importers, distributors, system integrators, OEM brands and pack builders. There is no consumer checkout on this site.
Are samples available before a volume order?+
Yes — so you can run your own testing and approval before committing volume. Availability depends on the model, so it is confirmed against your enquiry rather than promised in advance.
Why are no prices published?+
Cell pricing moves with volume, batch and destination, and a figure published on a page would be out of date before it was read. Commercial terms are quoted per enquiry against the model, quantity and ship-to market.
Can I order one model in several batches?+
Yes, and it is often the better approach for a first product: one batch to qualify, further batches released once the design is fixed. Say so in the enquiry, because it changes how the cells are selected and packed.
Transport and compliance
What travels with a consignment, and how to tell whether a certificate actually covers the model you are buying.
What documentation travels with an order?+
UN38.3 test summary and the safety data sheet, matched to the actual shipping configuration. Certificates are quoted only where we hold the document and the model appears in its coverage list — that currently covers Molicel models, and no certificate documents are held for the other three brands.
Does a certificate cover every model from that manufacturer?+
No. A UL recognition is issued under a file number that lists the constructions covered, and a model added later is only covered once the file is updated. The check is whether your model designation appears in that list, not whether the manufacturer holds a certificate at all.
Can cells ship by air?+
Yes, under the applicable packing instruction and with the state of charge limited for standalone cells. The final word rests with the airline and the freight forwarder, and the configuration — cells alone, packed with equipment, or contained in equipment — decides which entry applies.
Technical and pack assembly
How ratings are quoted, why cells are matched, and what changes a pack design when the enclosure cannot hold the data sheet condition.
How is a continuous discharge rating quoted?+
With the condition it depends on. A rating is only valid while the pack keeps the cell inside the manufacturer temperature cut-off, so figures on this site are written as, for example, 30 A at an 80 °C cut-off. A current quoted with no cut-off is not comparable and should not be designed against.
Should cells be matched before they are welded into a pack?+
Yes. Cells sharing a series string are matched on capacity, internal resistance and open-circuit voltage. An unmatched string drifts: the weakest cell reaches the low-voltage cut-off first, the protection circuit trips, and the pack reads as failed while most of its capacity is still there.
What happens if my enclosure cannot hold the rated temperature?+
The usable current is lower than the printed rating, and the difference has to be measured rather than assumed. Derate until the cell stays inside the cut-off in your worst ambient, then write the derated figure into the specification. Measuring air temperature instead of cell surface temperature is the usual reason this gets missed.
