About the Molicel INR18650-P28A 18650 Li-ion Cell 2,800 mAh 35 A
The P28A is the high-power 18650 in Molicel's P-series: 2,800 mAh at 35 A, built with the low impedance and low-temperature electrolyte the company uses across the line. At 46 g it is the lightest cell in this group, which is not incidental — it was designed for packs where cell mass is the constraint.
Why pack builders specify it
- 35 A discharge rating at 2,800 mAh, a high power-to-energy ratio for 18650
- 46 g, the lightest cell in this range, which matters in drone and handheld tool packs
- Discharge rated to -40 °C for cold-weather and altitude work
- Molicel rates the P-series for continuous 20 A with pulse discharge well beyond 50 A
Typical applications
- Racing and FPV drones – High current at minimum cell mass
- Cordless power tools – Compact packs that still need 30 A-class output
- E-bikes and light electric vehicles – Where a 18650 holder is fixed and peak draw is high
- Emergency and backup power – High pulse capability for short-duration ride-through
Where it fits
Choose the P28A when the design needs 35 A-class current inside the 18650 format and weight matters. If the load fits within 20 A, the Samsung 25R is cheaper; if capacity matters more than current, the M35A gives 700 mAh more at 10 A.
Charging and pack integration
Charge CC-CV to 4.2 V within the current limits listed above and stop discharge at 2.5 V. These are unprotected industrial cells: a BMS or protection circuit is required, interconnects must be resistance or laser welded rather than soldered, and cells of different model, batch or state of charge must not be mixed in one pack. Charging below 0 °C is not permitted unless the pack implements a low-temperature charge strategy.
